Over a hundred new beds will be spread across four hospitals.

A total of 109 new forensic mental health beds will be added across four NSW hospitals over the next four years, says NSW Health.

A new mental health ICU will be located within the Forensic Hospital at Malabar (Freshwater Unit).

Additional low secure [LT1] and medium secure forensic beds will be located within the mental health precinct at Concord Hospital.

The Cumberland Bunya Medium Secure Forensic unit will be relocated to Blacktown Hospital, including the addition of new low secure forensic beds.

The Morisset Kestrel Medium Secure Forensic unit will be relocated to the New Maitland Hospital, with the addition of new low secure forensic beds. This includes the relocation of the adult acute and older persons services previously provided at Morisset.

The additional beds will take the total of forensic mental health beds to 318 across the state.

Forensic mental health units ensure people receive comprehensive mental health care when engaged in the criminal justice system.
