The innovative solution developed by the Cairnmillar Institute offers 24/7 support to patients, clinicians and carers.

The Cairnmillar Institute has launched an innovative digital platform designed to support individuals affected by trauma—and their clinicians, carers, and support workers.

Developed by a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, researchers, and people with lived experience, TraumaConnect offers 24/7 access to trauma-informed tools, resources, and real-time messaging support.

The Melbourne-based institute’s CEO and provost Dr Kathryn von Treuer said the platform aimed to bridge critical gaps in care during waitlists, between therapy sessions, or when traditional services are inaccessible.

“Too many people are being told to wait – for services, for answers, for recovery,” she said.

“TraumaConnect ensures that no one is left without support. It meets people where they are, with tools they can use immediately to feel seen, heard, and supported.”

Cairnmillar clinical psychologist and director of digital services, Vicki Smith said the platform also supported frontline professions to help reduce burnout.

“Clinicians see this gap every day – the time between appointments, the long waitlists, the moments when people need something right now,” Ms Smith said.

“TraumaConnect bridges that gap with evidence-based tools and real-world compassion.”

Features of the platform include a multimedia resource library of articles, podcasts, videos, and lived-experience stories; practical workbooks and tip sheets to support emotional wellbeing; confidential messaging with trained Australian professionals and peer workers (available weekdays, 8am–8pm AEST); and live webinars and community events hosted by trauma experts

Every element of the platform has been co-designed with people who have lived experience of trauma, ensuring its relevance, sensitivity, and clinical integrity.

“As someone with lived experience of trauma, I know how hard it is to find reliable, safe, and gentle support when you’re in the thick of it,” said Alexandra Paton, a lived experience contributor.

“This platform offers something steady and meaningful when life feels uncertain. It’s about walking alongside people with information and support they can truly hold onto.”

TraumaConnect is now available to individuals, carers, support workers, and organisations. Group memberships with flexible onboarding are also offered for teams and communities.

More information about the platform can be found here and the app can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play.
