Nous digital lead makes leap to Medibank’s ranks

And Bupa has snaffled another big name. The insurers are making their moves. Plus, news from the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health.

Nous Group’s principal and co-lead of digital health, Dr Paul Eleftheriou, will leave the consultancy after four years to take up the role of chief medical officer (customer) with Medibank.

Dr Eleftheriou will finish at Nous on 13 March to start his Medibank role on 31 March, replacing Dr Christopher Robinson, who returned to St Vincent’s last month as national CMO.

It’s a return to familiar territory for Dr Eleftheriou, who did a stint with Medibank as occupational medical advisor from 2011-2013.

Things have changed a lot since then, he said in a LinkedIn post announcing his move.

“I return to this fantastic organisation during a rapidly evolving health sector and as Medibank seeks to revolutionise healthcare,” he wrote.

“Medibank is at an exciting crossroads. They continue to significantly grow their health service footprint to become a health company that genuinely invests in prevention and wellbeing. They are now one of the largest owners of primary care clinics, have a stake in half a dozen hospitals (including Adeney Private Hospital, the country’s first zero out-of-pocket private hospital) and run some of the country’s largest preventive, home care, telehealth and virtual mental health and aged care services.”

Dr Eleftheriou will also be Medibank’s lead for the management assurance and clinical hub.

He said his four years at Nous had been “an incredible chapter” in his career.

“I moved from being a clinician to a hospital administrator because I wanted to make an impact at the service level but then moved into consulting, as I felt an even greater impact to our health system and society could be made,” he wrote.

“I have learnt an amazing amount and have cherished the countless relationships, impactful projects and memories.”

Brown makes moves to Bupa

Another insurer has also landed a big fish, with Dr Jonathan Brown, former director and medical director (Victoria) of 13SICK, signing up as Bupa’s new medical director.

Dr Brown is a UK-trained GP and founder of the GPs Down Under GP-led online community.

New signing at CDTH

Associate Professor Tangerine Holt has joined the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health’s education and workforce development team.

According to the CDTH announcement, Professor Holt “will lead the growth of the Centre’s education and professional development programs so they continue to meet the needs of the current health care sector and prepare for a future that will increasingly involve digital technologies and AI”.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health at such an important moment for the health sector,” she said.

“There is an enormous opportunity to strengthen health care outcomes through high-quality education that connects data, AI, and digital capability with real-world practice.

“I’m particularly excited to work with the Centre’s partners across academia, healthcare, government, and industry to help build a confident, capable, and future-ready workforce.”
